Christmas Tours!

❄️ Oh, there’s so much happening at Rambling London Tours for Christmas!! I can’t wait! (Can you tell it’s my favourite time of year??) ❄️

This festive season, to celebrate the fact that we can explore London in person again, I will be offering not one, but two types of Christmas tour! A National Gallery tour with a Christmassy theme and a walking tour of the wintry West End. There should be something for everyone. Heck, you could come to both if you were really keen! In addition, so I’m not excluding my out-of-London guests (or if you just don’t want to venture out into the cold), there will also be a special, one-off virtual version of my West End walking tour. More info below.

Christmas is such a wonderful time of year in London: the markets, the dazzling lights, and all the special events – from carol services to pantomimes! London is also home to some of the best gallery collections in the world so it seems like the perfect opportunity to combine the two and explore Christmas through art!

A tour for both art lovers as well as those who are simply curious to learn something new! We’ll talk about where it all began, that little baby in a manger all those years ago, as well as the origins of a few of our Christmas traditions and characters and, of course, the tales and techniques of some of history’s greatest artists. From the wonderful Nativity scenes of masters like Botticelli to Pissarro’s snowy depiction of London (plus some artists you may not have heard of before!), join me at the National Gallery and let’s get in the Christmas spirit!

The tour will last roughly an hour and a half, and the meeting point will be in Trafalgar Square, outside the National Gallery – the exact location will be sent to you via email after booking. Entry to the National Gallery is included in your ticket (because the Gallery is free) and you are welcome to explore the Gallery further after the tour – just be aware that it closes at 6pm.

£16 (+ Eventbrite fees) | Dates available: Saturday 4th December and Sunday 5th December (both 3pm-5pm).

Christmastime in London’s West End Walking Tour

London is amazing on any day, but it’s even more spectacular at Christmas time! And it’s wonderful that this year we can enjoy a festive walking tour in person!! Join me for a wander through London’s West End, from Trafalgar Square to Covent Garden. We’ll learn about the festive traditions which make London so special, from gifts of Norwegian trees to Twelfth Night cakes. It’s the perfect opportunity to see some of the 2021 lights which decorate our glittering capital city and hear some fascinating stories along the way.

As well as looking at what Christmas is like now, we’ll delve into how Christmas has been celebrated in this country over the centuries – including in wartime! – and learn the origins of some of our best-loved Christmas traditions. Mince pies, mistletoe, pantomime, and more!

The tour will last roughly two hours and the meeting point will be in Trafalgar Square, by the Christmas tree – the exact location will be sent to you via email after booking.

£16 (+ Eventbrite fees) | Dates available: Friday 10th December (6pm-8pm) or Sunday 12th December (4pm-6pm).
Book below or on Eventbrite.

Christmastime in London’s West End Virtual Tour

The same route and content as the tour above, but from the warmth and comfort of your own home! Using a combination of maps, photos, and videos, let me bring the joy and beauty of London at Christmas directly to you in this virtual wander from Trafalgar Square to Covent Garden.

It’s super easy to take part in the tour via the wonder that is Zoom. All you have to do is buy a ticket and then on the day of the event I will email you with the Zoom link and the simple instructions to make sure you’re in the right virtual place at the right time and ready to go! The tour lasts a little over an hour with time to ask questions at the end. If you can’t join the tour live, there will be a recording of it available for two weeks after the tour.

Please make sure you have Zoom downloaded before the tour.

£10 (+ Eventbrite fees) | Dates available: Friday 17th December (6pm).
Book below or on Eventbrite.

In terms of Covid restrictions, social distancing and face coverings are no longer mandatory. In the National Gallery, they ask you to wear a mask if possible. For the West End walking tour, as it is outdoors, that is at your own discretion. You can find more information about how I am keeping my groups safe during the pandemic here.
