London’s Time Capsules

Have you ever spared a thought for what’s buried under London? Amongst the old buildings and the burials, and probably a lot of rubbish, there are a fair few time capsules. Pockets of history waiting for the future to find them. I’ve shared a few of my favourites in this blog post (plus stay tuned for Part Two!).

When England went Bananas

On 10th April 1633, the earliest recorded bananas went on sale in England, in an apothecary on Snow Hill in London.
I’ve read more about bananas in the last 24 hours than I have in my entire life, but it was completely worth it – a bit of creative writing, a bit of fascinating history!

Old, New, and Wonderful: Cannon Street

I want to start a new little segment. The Old, the New, and the Wonderful. There’s so much to do in London and you’d need a lifetime to do it all, so to help out all of my fellow Adventurers, I’ll be putting together three things at a time: one old, one new, and one a little bit unusual. Today we’re looking at the area in and around Cannon Street in the City of London.

ROA and Stubbs: (Street) Art in London

London has an incredible collection of art galleries, and more recently, street art has been moving our galleries outdoors. Street art and “High” art seem like two completely different worlds, but not as much separates them as we think.

To My Successor…

As I came to the end of my time as an Au Pair, I wrote a little letter to my successor with all my wisdom. I’m posting it here in the hopes that it can also be useful to anyone else who is considering becoming an Au Pair.

Death at the National Gallery

I know it sounds morbid, but it’s still sort of Halloween, right? And over the centuries humanity’s obsession with death and what happens after we shuffle off this mortal coil has had a continuous and exciting influence on art.
Here are just a few examples…

Stranger Danger (Italian edition)

I’m starting to get the impression that I can’t have a proper holiday anymore without putting my life in the hands of at least one stranger. Italy was no different.

Stranger Danger

I would never have survived my three days in New York without strangers. Okay, maybe slightly dramatic, but the people I interacted with certainly nudged me in the right direction when I needed it most.
From photographers to navigators to new friends, be safe and always talk to strangers.
